Skoll social entrepreneur Kiva has landed at number 23 on Time Magazine's Top 50 Best Web Sites 2008 list. Per Time, "You don't have to give away money to support a good cause. At Kiva, you can make a small loan, instead." Nice recognition for Kiva, which continues to push the envelope in showing what's possible combining microfinance and the web.
Matt Flannery and Premal Shah, the CEO and President, respectively, of Kiva, were at the Foundation last week, providing an update on how things are going. A few interesting statistics - they are approaching $50 million in total loans, they make a loan every 18-30 seconds, and the average loan, of around $500, is funded in a day and a half.
Innovative idea, well executed, having real impact. Great social entrepreneurs.
